Bone Flute has received one award so far, when project lead Ralph Borland received an Outstanding Scholar Award from the Carnegie Corporation of New York in November 2023, at the African Studies Association Annual Conference in San Francisco, for his work on the project.

The project and the exhibition AIAIA – Aesthetic Interventions in Artificial Intelligence in Africa was reviewed by University of Cape Town News on 27 February 2023. See ‘Flute from his femur‘ by Helen Swingler.
